Overview
The Planning Division ensures that the long-range land use planning for the Township follows the defined goals of the community through review of all development activity. It provides professional administrative staff to the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Design Review Board. Administrative duties include preparation of agendas, coordination of reviews and public notification. Additional staff duties are site development inspection, review of construction permits for zoning ordinance compliance, site plan review, design and sign review and processing of all rezoning and lot split requests.

The Director is responsible for overall direction and management of all planning, building and ordinance functions for the Township. Serves as the Township Planner to direct planning and building activities through coordination of assigned activities with other Township Departments, Township Consultants, Officials, Outside Agencies, and the public on projects.

The Deputy Director manages the processing of appeals to the ZBA, site plan and design reviews to the Design Review Board and Planning Commission, applications to the Wetlands Board; meets with property owners, developers and architects to review zoning, land use and development proposals in compliance with Township’s ordinances and policies; and reviews construction documents for compliance with Township Board approvals for permit issuance.

The Planner provides information and assistance to the public on planning-related matters regarding zoning, land use, and current projects; and reviews applications and plans for the Planning, Building & Ordinance Director for requests before the Design Review Board, Planning Commission, and Zoning Board of Appeals.

The Associate Planner processes and reviews plans for the Design Review Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals: determines conformance with ordinances and when to require revisions, and prepare for meetings; responds to the general public on planning inquiries; assists with the preparation of public notices and communications; attends Design Review Board, Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings when required to assist other planning staff; and assists with research and data collection for Planning studies.
