2026 Sewer Rehabilitation Program 

Bloomfield Township is set to resume its ongoing public sanitary sewer system rehabilitation program in the Fall of 2026. The main goal of this is to reduce inflow and infiltration of groundwater into our system. This will decrease the overall volume of sewage requiring treatment, save money, and lower the risk of sanitary sewer overflows.  

In coordination with Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office, the Township prioritized portions of sections 12, 13, 24, and 25 (see map). Following a comprehensive investigation completed in 2025, the Township identified specific mainline sanitary sewers and sewer manholes requiring attention. This will include cleaning of the sewers, grouting of joints, and installing a Cured in Place Piping (CIPP) liner. Because it avoids excavation, the installation of CIPP liners will greatly reduce ground disturbance and the associated restoration, minimizing the impact to the community. 

Important Notice Regarding Home Sump Pumps 

During the CIPP lining process, the connection where each home’s private sewer line discharges to the public sanitary sewer will be temporarily blocked for several hours. If a home's sump pump is connected to the sanitary sewer lead, there is a serious risk of water backing up into the basement while the pipe is blocked.  

What you need to do: 

If you know or suspect that your sump pump is tied into your sanitary sewer lead, please contact the Township’s Engineering and Environmental Services Department immediately. We need to  investigate this and resolve any connections before the CIPP lining begins to protect your property from damage.
