The Bloomfield Township Fire Department (BTFD) is proud to announce multiple options for our Residential Fire Department Lock Box Program.
A lock box is a small metal box, which is installed outside of an individual’s home containing a key to the residence. The box is locked by a special key, to which only the Fire and Police departments have access to. In the event of an emergency, the Fire Department can use the special key to open the lock box and access your house key to gain entry into your home, therefore eliminating damage to your home from forcible entry.
The box is ideal for individuals with a history of medical issues, recuperating from a hospital stay, living alone, or in conjunction with a medical alert system. The lock box is also a great home security device for the homeowner that may be away from home for extended periods. Once the lock box is installed; the property address will be entered into the Bloomfield Township Dispatch Center. Any time emergency responders are called to the property, they will be alerted by dispatch of the lock box presence. This will allow for faster access to the home, while reducing any damage to the house.

Roper Lock Box
To order a Roper Lock Box, there is a one-time purchase fee and no monthly monitoring fees. These boxes are safe and durable. The cost is $40.50 plus shipping and handling. You can order online or over the phone at 330-656-5148.
**IMPORTANT** If you are ordering online, make sure to click the Muni Participation? box and enter “Bloomfield Township 48302” under the section “Enter your Municipality name and zip code" to ensure the lockbox is keyed properly to the Bloomfield Township Fire Department.
The Bloomfield Township Fire Department also has a limited supply on hand for $40 each. BTFD will offer a basic installation (determined by BTFD) of the Roper Lock Box for an additional $20 payable by cash or check at time of service.

To order a residential Knox Box, there is a one-time purchase fee and no monthly monitoring fees. These boxes are safe and durable. These boxes begin at around $160. If you are interested in this option, an application is available at Central Fire Station, 1155 Exeter Dr. Bloomfield Township, MI 48302. You can also order the Knox Box Online. Simply search for Bloomfield Township and order your box.
While you are waiting for the delivery your home lock box, it is the perfect time to have extra copies of your door keys made. If your door has a deadbolt, don't forget to have an extra key made for this lock as well. These keys will be put inside the lock box by the Fire Department.

Upon receiving your lock box, please contact the Bloomfield Township Department at 248-433-7745 to make an appointment to have your keys installed.
If you are interested in this program, a release of liability will need to be signed before the Lock Box can be placed into service.
