Our Mission

Promoting Wellness; Supporting Independence;

Strengthening Community and Cultivating Vitality.

What We Do

We offer lifelong learning and interactive opportunities for residents age 50 and over to stimulate the mind and the body. These include a wide variety of fitness classes, both land and aquatic; enrichment opportunities; and day trips.

Our supportive services are often fundamental in assisting elderly residents to remain in their homes and our community. We offer home delivered meals, liquid nutritional supplements, minor home repair, telephone reassurance, information and referrals, and medical transportation.

Residency and Eligibility

A resident is a person who pays residential property taxes or resides in Bloomfield Township. Proof of residency is required; and a driver’s license, state ID, Township residential tax bill or current residential lease agreement are all valid forms of proof of residency. Once residency has been confirmed, BTSS staff will create a profile in our registration software.

Code of Conduct

Our Funding

The Senior Service Millage is one half of one percent of a BT tax dollar* and provides only 50% of the BTSS budget. We must generate approximately $750,000 annually to maintain our current level of services.

A full 85% of the non-tax funding comes from user fees and co-pays for services. We believe that those benefiting from programs and services should support them unless they have demonstrated low income.

Annually, we welcome 70-75,000 visits and provide a high level of customer service in a friendly atmosphere. Our supportive services translate into 26,000 "units" representing a ride to the center or medical appointment, an hour of respite care for a loved one living with dementia or a hot meal delivered to a homebound senior. BTSS is a truly cost effective investment in this community; we are turning your dollars into wellness and independence for many. Thank you for your ongoing support!

*Only 28 cents of every tax dollar paid stays in Bloomfield Township for all Township services. 72% of taxes support schools and community colleges, the county, the library, SMART, the Zoo and DIA.

Bloomfield Township Senior Services receives 3/5 of a penny from a tax dollar paid to Bloomfield Township.
