The Planning Division ensures that the long-range land use planning for the Township follows the defined goals of the community through review of all development activity. It provides professional administrative staff to the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Design Review Board. Administrative duties include preparation of agendas, coordination of reviews and public notification, site development inspection, review of construction permits for zoning ordinance compliance, site plan review, design and sign review and processing of all rezoning and lot split requests.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission serves as a recommending board. Upon their review of varied submittals, ie: commercial site plans, zoning ordinance amendments and residential developments, recommendations are forwarded to the Township Board of Trustees for final approval or denial.

Meetings begin at 7:00 PM on the first and third Monday of each month, except when the Monday is a holiday and, then the meetings are usually held the next Wednesday. Meetings are held at the Township Hall, 4200 Telegraph Road.
In the event a meeting date needs to be changed or is cancelled, the Commission members will be notified along with applicants and a notice will be posted at Township Hall.
Design Review Board
The Design Review Board reviews all exterior changes for commercial properties and new residential developments, prior to the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals as necessary.

Zoning Board of Appeals Application
In accordance with the Zoning Ordinance, Chapter 42, appeals from the strict applications of the provisions of the Zoning Ordinance may be made to the Zoning Board of Appeals upon finding the standards of practical difficulty or hardship have been met. Please review the Ordinance before submitting this application to assure compliance with the various provisions.
Please review the submission requirements, complete the application form, and submit all required information to the Planning Department for the Zoning Board of Appeals. The Zoning Board of Appeals meets the second Tuesday of every month (unless otherwise scheduled) at 7:00 PM held at the Township Hall.
