Priority 3: Enhance Community Character

Goal

Preserve the Township's history and natural resources to maintain our unique community character and neighborhood design elements for current and future residents.

Objectives, Performance Measures, and Status

Create a multimedia campaign to inform Township residents about code enforcement and building code resources to ensure the safety of residents and assist them with enhancing and improving their properties.

Status

Plans are in progress to modernize online forms to make them more user-friendly.

Encourage use of safety paths by informing the community through multi-faceted channels to ensure a sense of safe and connected neighborhoods.

Performance Measure

Number of informational campaigns that were developed and attended.

Status

Cable and Community Relations recommend updating the Safety Path information video to inform the public of newly installed paths.

Plans in progress to update the safety path map for resident communication.

Revisit the Township's tree preservation and protection policies and amend current zoning ordinances to further define levels of required preservation and enforcement so that green spaces and tranquil settings are maintained.

Performance Measure

Number of tree preservation applications.

Status

In October of 2025 a team began meeting to update the tree preservation and protection policy/ordinance.

Collaborate with HOAs to inform residents about Township residential lot regulations and to protect and maintain wetland areas.

Upcoming

Engage with Preservation Bloomfield, Bloomfield Historical Society, and the Bloomfield Hills School District to promote their educational opportunities regarding the Township's rich history.

Performance Measure

Number of informational campaigns that were developed and attended.

Status

Bloomfield Historical Society lectures are regularly recorded and broadcast.
The school superintendent is interviewed annually on the Township Supervisor's show "Bloomfield in Focus".
BCTV records and broadcasts several school events each year in coordination with Bloomfield Youth Association.
Bicentennial working committee was formed and has had two meetings. Waiting on instruction from the steering committee.

Update the Township's master plan to allow the evolution of the Township in a way that is consistent with community character and neighborhood designs.

Trees and greenspaces that provide a tranquil setting are preserved.
Large lots and density requirements are protected.
The Township Master Plan is updated by December 2027.
