The U.S. Department of State has notified Passport Acceptance Agencies, such as The Bloomfield Township Clerk's Office, that processing times for passports has been lengthened.
In a statement to agencies, the Department of State said, "We have updated our public information to reflect that routine processing of a passport application now takes 8-11 weeks, and expedited processing (for an additional $60) takes 5-7 weeks. Our processing times begin the day we receive an application at a passport agency or center, not on the day the customer applied for a passport at an acceptance facility. We are no longer using door-to-door timeframes to calculate our estimated routine and expedited service times. Mail times may vary across the country."
