In the latest episode of Coffee With Carrie, Cable and Community Relations Director Carrie LeZotte was joined by Bloomfield Township Clerk Martin Brook to discuss important information about the upcoming election season. They discussed the August 6 Primary Election and the November 5 General Election.
"Michigan election law has changed since the last presidential election cycle. In the next week, look for a mailer from the Clerk's Office that outlines election law changes and provides information about voting the primary and general ballots. Please inform yourself and exercise your right to vote," stated Brook.
Brook also took pride in the high level of voter turnout in the Township. “Our goal is to make sure everyone eligible is registered and that everyone registered actually votes.”
For the upcoming Primary Election, please know:
· You can ONLY vote “straight party”
· Early Voting starts July 27 and ends August 4
· Absentee ballots can now be brought to polling places for live tabulation, as well as mailed in, placed in drop boxes and/or dropped off at the Clerk’s Office
The November General Election will allow for voting across party lines. The aforementioned mailer includes this information and more.
Additionally, the Clerk’s Office is still looking for help with the November election. These are paid positions and will require a criminal background check.
Residents are encouraged to find information and check their voter registration at the Michigan Voter Information Center. If residents have any additional questions or would like to apply for election work, they are encouraged to contact the Clerk’s Office at 248-433-7702 or Email.
