Health Insurance: Employees receive Cigna PPO coverage with low premiums—$50/single or $100/family per pay period—and annual deductibles of $2,000/single and $4,000/family. Opt-out incentives include $3,000 (single) or $6,000 (family). Additional health perks include dental, vision, telehealth, and wellness rewards. The Township also contributes to a Health Savings Accounts: $1,500 for singles and $3,000 for families.

Paid Time Off: The Township provides 34 floating holiday hours, 13 sick days annually (4 hours accrued biweekly), along with a vacation bank up to 9 days a year and 7 paid holidays. Three sick days may be used as personal days.

Disability & Life Insurance: Coverage includes short- and long-term disability, $50,000 employee life insurance, $10,000 spouse life insurance, and $25,000 accidental death/dismemberment insurance.

Retirement Plans: The Township contributes 10% to a defined contribution plan (401a) with full vesting after seven (7) years. We also offer a retiree health savings plan with a $3,000 annual contribution by the Township and a mandatory 3% employee contribution.

Job Description

Bloomfield Township, MI (pop. 44,253) - The Charter Township of Bloomfield is located in the economic heart of Oakland County, Michigan. With easy access to all of southeast Michigan, including Detroit and Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Township is an ideal location to live and work.

The Township is one of the most prestigious communities in Michigan, boasting stately homes, tree-lined neighborhoods, excellent public services, and a thriving business environment. The Township is home to a wide range of businesses, from international headquarters to small, local businesses. This range creates a healthy symbiosis between the businesses and the residential community. Although the Township is mostly built out, it experiences healthy development and redevelopment within its 26 square miles. Most of its commercial, industrial and research areas are located along major thoroughfares, including Telegraph Road and historic Woodward Avenue.

Bloomfield Township is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Planner. This position will work closely with the Director of the Planning, Building & Ordinance Department to administer the planning needs of the Township. This highly responsible position presents applications at the Design Review Board (DRB), writes agendas and legal notices for the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), and assists with processing site plan applications to the Planning Commission. The Township has plentiful woodlands and wetlands and is committed to both the preservation of its natural resources and maintaining its distinctive Bloomfield Township aesthetic. As the primary staff representative to the DRB and ZBA, this position will have the opportunity to truly impact the future development of the community.

This is a highly visible position, helping the public with understanding planning procedures, ordinance requirements, and current planning projects. A qualified candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, collaboration and team building skills, and advanced public presentation skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field.
  • Five (5) years of experience in public planning preferably in a municipality or with a private municipal consulting firm.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

Wage range of $60,854.62 to $80,935.98, DOQE, with an excellent benefit package.
