Job Description
Bloomfield Township, MI (pop. 44,253) - The Charter Township of Bloomfield is located in the economic heart of Oakland County, Michigan. With easy access to all of southeast Michigan, including Detroit and Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Township is an ideal location to live and work.
Bloomfield Township is seeking a licensed professional engineer (PE) to serve as its next Deputy Director of Engineering and Environmental Services. This leadership position is responsible for a variety of supervisory duties associated with the planning, engineering and construction of public improvements; operation and maintenance of public facilities; review and inspection of site development projects; and perform related work. Preferred candidates will have knowledge or experience in the design, construction, administration, and/or inspection of municipal projects. The Deputy Director assumes the Department Head’s administrative and office responsibilities in their absence, providing technical support to the department and other Township divisions as needed. - Assist in managing a comprehensive, appropriately funded, and expertly executed capital plan.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage activities of engineering consultants and construction inspectors.
- Assist in managing the stormwater management program and water/sewer capital improvement program.
- Lead special assessment districts for water/sewer extensions and road paving; including assist residents plan and prepare special assessment petitions for roads, drains, water main, and sanitary sewer construction.
- Prepare bid documents, specifications, and reports for engineering projects and contracted services.
- Coordinate department work with other Township departments and external agencies.
- Review plans and specifications for compliance with relevant ordinances and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee public infrastructure and private development projects, ensuring alignment with the Township Master Plan and other strategic documents.
- Provide presentations to the public and Township Board.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensed professional engineer (PE) in the State of Michigan at the time of appointment.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, construction engineering, or related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of responsible experience in municipal construction or engineering projects, including planning, design, construction, administration, and inspection.
- Or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Wage range of $89,096.61 to $118,499.28, DOQE, with an excellent benefit package.
