New Community Producers are creating video content and podcasts that tell local stories to educate and enlighten residents on popular topics. This month, Bloomfield Community Television (BCTV) is proud to present the premiere of Chopz: All Music with Kat Orlando.
Per host and creator Orlando, the title of the program refers to the music slang that is defined as “one’s ability to play music, your dexterity and how good you are.” In addition to playing music for over 20 years, Orlando’s background includes studies in Communications from Oakland Community College, degree in Graphic Design from College for Creative Studies, as well as work at Fox-2 Detroit.
When asked about the genesis of the program she shared, “I’ve been wanting to do a show like this for years! I’ve already done an online radio show that deals with newly released, independent artist music. Now that this is in TV show format, I can add other elements such as video and hopefully live full band performances.”
She added, “it’s very difficult for the independent artist to get local or national air play. I’m hoping that this will be an outlet and gain popularity so that people can see and hear artists and songwriters that they normally wouldn’t hear on the radio and see on TV. Also, it provides a behind-the-scenes view of what it takes to be a working musician. Other musicians would find this relatable but it also could be of interest to an aspiring musician, singer or songwriter or people not familiar with that lifestyle.”
On her experience working with BCTV she proclaimed, “I have already taped four show segments at BCTV. Everybody is wonderful and helpful in bringing my concepts to reality. I’m learning a lot as I go and hope to improve and add on certain elements to the show, making it more enjoyable as I go.”
