At BCTV, new community producers are creating video content and podcasts that tell local stories to educate and enlighten residents on popular topics. The latest to join the enlightening lineup of community-originated programming are The Franklin Show and The Bigger Picture: Saving the Impossible Dream.

The Franklin Show – an irreverent and refreshing program that evokes memories of the classic days of Public-Access television. Host and Franklin Village Trustee Michael Seltzer cultivates a laid-back environment with his nonchalant take on current events. Each episode includes lively interviews with plucky guests but the true show stealer is Michael’s Maltese (aptly named Franklin). As Michael says in the first episode, “it was Franklin who adopted me.”

For The Franklin Show, Seltzer shared that his idea for the show was “to boost my profile as a longtime member of the Franklin Village council and volunteer in our community. Given my background as a retired marketing man with a 40-year career in media I decided to take it to a new level to provide an entertaining and energetic mock talk show but feature interesting guests with Franklin businesses or Franklin business careers and weave their stories into a humorous concept. My sincere love for my adopted pet Franklin was the impetus for The Franklin Show — never before have a man and his pup hosted a series!”

He also adds, “I love working with the talented Bloomfield Cable team who have injected their own infectious humor and support and I greatly appreciate their efforts in creating must see television!”

The Bigger Picture: Saving the Impossible Dream – Host Joel Shayne Brown takes a deep dive into what can be done to preserve “the impossible dream” of life on this planet for children, grandchildren, and all unborn generations. Brown was trained and certified by as a climate change speaker by Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project and designated as a leader. Brown imparts with passion and purpose that everyone needs to work together to slow down and stop the climate change emergency from becoming worse with each successive year. In the end, he suggests joining a number of organizations committed to doing this work where, working together, you can make a difference.

For this endeavor, Brown shared “When people are fortunate to work with others that have an authentic passion and purpose, it generates a more creative and fulfilling life experience. I feel, in this regard, lucky to have found this experience and want others to feel the urgency and importance of stopping climate change from making human life irreversibly hellish.”

He also adds, “I am grateful that the BCTV Team helped me produce and host ‘The Bigger Picture: Saving the Impossible Dream’. It’s something I have very much wanted to do.”
