Reminder for individuals assisting an absentee voter with the absentee voting signature requirement. Properly disclosed, a person can assist with completion of the absentee ballot and ballot return envelope, but that assistance cannot include signing the application or ballot envelope. The voter must sign the application for an absentee ballot and the ballot return envelope. Pursuant to state law, we cannot accept the signature of a Power of Attorney. Instead, if a person becomes unable to produce their prior signature, they can request that we update our signature records to include a new signature. Or, if a person cannot produce a signature at all, it is acceptable to use a signature stamp or make an alternative mark such as an X or wiggly line.
