September is National Senior Center Month and Bloomfield Township Senior Services (BTSS) would like to remind all about the valuable programs and services that they offer – year-round. This year’s theme for the month is “Powering Connections.”

In recent years, more and more studies have been released about the importance of social interaction and how it can affect one’s physical health. And senior centers have always been places where people meet, share stores and make connections that last. Learn more at the National Council of Aging.

For 19 years, Senior Services has offered lifelong learning and interactive opportunities for residents age 50 and over to stimulate the mind and the body. These include a wide variety of fitness classes, both land and aquatic; fitness equipment, learning opportunities; social clubs and day trips. Daily attendance ranges from 180-250 actively engaged participants.

Now is the perfect time to check out the Fall 2024 Catalog. BTSS Director Christine Tvaroha invites people to “come invest in your physical, cognitive and social wellbeing in our welcoming environment where all programs are infused with fun, laughter, smiles and encouragement.”

Additionally, the supportive services offered are fundamental in assisting elderly residents to remain in their homes and community. They offer home delivered meals, liquid nutritional supplements, minor home repair, telephone reassurance, information and referrals, and transportation to the center and medical appointments.

Finally, this is a good time to check out Senior Center Facts For Fifty Plus, the new podcast hosted by Tvaroha. The podcast highlights current Senior Services programming and the first episode features Senior Center Fitness Coordinator Maggie Barclay to speak about the importance of physical fitness as one ages.
