Per the CDC, 1 in 5 deaths can be attributed to heart disease. Bloomfield Township Senior Services wants our residents to make a change for the better this February, which is National Heart Month.

Basic movement is key to maintaining heart health because it helps improve circulation, reduce the risk of heart disease, and support overall cardiovascular function. Senior Services offers programs in a state-of-the-art senior center designed for active adults.

The chief component is the Strength Training/Cardiovascular Area, which is reserved for Township residents who complete an orientation and sign up for Fitness Open Hours. This area includes 42 pieces of fitness equipment: 20 pieces of HUR machines for resistance strength training, and 22 cardio machines (elliptical, steppers, treads, NuStep bikes, therapeutic bikes, and water rowers).

This equipment is surrounded by a walking track. The length of the track is .04 miles (1 mile equals 25 laps). According to the AARP, just thirty minutes of walking a day can add years to your life, bolster your brain, and ward off depression.

Associate Fitness Coordinator Jason Schaefer succinctly shared, “Your heart loves you – love it back through exercise and proper nutrition!”

Track use is $10 monthly for residents; non-residents pay $15.

Bonus: at the Senior Center you truly benefit from a social environment brimming with encouragement and camaraderie.
