Bloomfield Township Police Department Celebrates The Life of Fallen Officer Gary Davis

On Monday morning, May 13, the Bloomfield Township Police Department commemorated the passing of Officer Gary Davis in a 20th anniversary memorial service. The outdoor event at police headquarters was met with beautiful weather, as Police Chief James Gallagher presided over the ceremony.  Attendees included many retirees and current staff who knew Officer Davis as well as neighboring public safety partners.

Chief Gallagher spoke about the tragic morning of May 13, 2004, when Officer Davis was transporting a prisoner and was subsequently killed by a drunk driver. He reminisced about a dedicated officer who also loved to joke and play pranks in the department.  Remarks concluded with a memorial wreath being placed at the Officer Gary Davis Memorial Bench by the Honor Guard. This was followed by the unveiling of a new shadow box that honors Officer Davis and will be displayed in the roll call room
in the future, ensuring the memory of Officer Davis lives on.

This week is National Police Week, which offers honor, remembrance, and peer support, while allowing law enforcement, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
