Chief of Police

Scott McCanham was named Chief of Police by the Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. He follows Geof Gaudard, who was appointed to the position in May 2013.

Chief McCanham was hired as a Bloomfield Township Police Officer in 1988. He rose through the ranks and served in a variety of positions including Field Training Officer, School Liaison Officer, Evidence Technician, Patrol and Traffic Sergeant, Patrol and Detective Bureau Lieutenant, and Captain of both the Patrol and Investigations Divisions. He was in charge of all on course law enforcement operations during both the 2004 Ryder Cup and the 2008 PGA Championship which were both held at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township.

In 2006 Chief McCanham graduated from the Northwestern School of Staff and Command.

In 2010, Chief McCanham graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Viginia. This is a select training program for law enforcement executives from around the world that focuses on both educational and physical training. Chief McCanham was selected as the Bloomfield Township Officer of the Year in 1994. He is a 1988 graduate of Ferris State University.
